Located in Saint-Petersburg on the shores of the Baltic sea, the Raketa Watch Factory has always had a tradition of making watches for Soviet submariners. The Raketa “Sonar Kashalot” model continues this tradition. It is a submariner’s watch by design and functionality.

The bezel of this watch is made from titanium of the submarine K-322 “Kashalot” laid down in the Soviet Union in 1986. The metal was obtained during the submarine’s deconstruction at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant and was officially given to the Raketa Watch Factory. Its hands are inspired by the design of the hands in the submarine’s control panels. The dial and hands are luminescent to allow submariners to read the time in the dark. 6 lines (in red and blue colours) divide the perimeter of the dial into 6 quarters allowing each crewmember to keep count of his watches/shifts in the submarine.

These hands are powered by a Raketa 24-hour automatic movement that allows submariners to distinguish day from night during their long underwater missions. The automatic movement has a bi-directional rotor which doubles the winding-up efficiency of the watch which is particularly useful in the cramped conditions of the submarine. The back of the watch reveals the beautifully decorated 24-hour automatic movement which is entirely produced by the Raketa Watch Factory in Saint-Petersburg. The Raketa “Sonar Kashalot” model is available in a limited edition as part of a metal case collector set which includes a certificate of metal origin, an additional leather strap and a 1:450 scale model of the submarine K-322 “Kashalot”.
