Strongest Grandmaster

Sergey Karjakin, an exceptional Russian grandmaster and a master of rapid play who creates the most complex chess combinations with his own hands, is a champion of Raketa’s Million Dollar Hands project.

From the very beginning, this famous chess player's career resembled a take-off of a rapid rocket. Brought up by the legendary Soviet chess school, he became the youngest grandmaster in history at the age of 12. Sergey made it to the Guinness Book and held his record for almost two decades, which is also a unique achievement.

Sergey is the world champion in rapid chess (2012) and blitz chess (2016), and has twice won the team championship with the Russian national team (2013, 2019). The grandmaster excels in every format, but his true brilliance shines in blitz and rapid chess, where every second counts. This is where the most precise calculations are just as important as masterful execution, which makes his playing similar to a watchmaker’s work. His hands put together chess combinations like a watch movement, transforming a train of thought into precise, flawless motion.
